Tuesday Tidbits will help you fill in those gaps. Every Tuesday, I\u2019ll teach you simple techniques that you can learn in under 10 minutes and implement immediately to improve your workflow.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Intro<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Grouping markups in Bluebeam is a great way get those markups to behave as one item and to consolidate your markups list. Today we\u2019ll go over 5 things you need to know about groups to get the most out of this feature:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"#group-ungroup\">Grouping and ungrouping<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#group-properties\">Changing the properties of a group<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#group-edit\">Editing individual markups within a group (without ungrouping)<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#group-aspect-ratio\">Changing the aspect ratio of a group<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#group-order\">Grouping order matters (kind of)<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"group-ungroup\">Grouping and Ungrouping<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting off with the basics, you can group and ungroup using two different methods:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Keyboard shortcut<ol><li>To group the currently selected markups, <strong>CTRL+G<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><ol><li>To ungroup the currently selected group, <strong>CTRL+SHIFT+G<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><\/li><li><strong>Right-click<\/strong> \u2192 <strong>Group <\/strong>or <strong>Ungroup<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Some additional things to note when grouping groups:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If there is only one group plus a bunch of additional markups selected, the additional markups with become part of the group.<\/li><li>If there are multiple groups selected, the groups plus any additional markups will be nested within the main group. Then if you ungroup, the original sub-groups will remain intact, the individual markups will remain individual markups.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"587\" height=\"681\" src=\"https:\/\/lizlarsen.me\/bluebeamblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/22_group_inception.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-534\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"group-properties\">Changing the Properties of a Group<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Anytime you select a markup in Bluebeam, the properties at the top of the window dynamically change to show you only what\u2019s relevant to the currently selected markup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In groups, however, the properties will update to show you all the properties for all markups in the group. And any property you change will update every single markup in that group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is generally a good thing, but most notably it can be a pain when it comes to the line color. Editing the line color property of a group will give every single markup in that group that border color, <strong><em>even if they previously didn\u2019t have a border at all<\/em><\/strong>. Items that didn\u2019t have a border before (ie they had a zero lineweight) will be given a border with a lineweight of 1.00 pt. This does not happen when applying a line style, though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"869\" height=\"564\" src=\"https:\/\/lizlarsen.me\/bluebeamblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/22_group_properties.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-533\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"group-edit\">Editing Individual Markups Within a Group (Without Ungrouping)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>But what if I don\u2019t want every single markup in a group to be updated when I change the properties? Well, Bluebeam allows you to edit individual markups in a group without needing to ungroup first. This applies to both markup properties and editing the little grippys to change size and orientation of markups within the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Select the group.<\/li><li>Hold the <strong>ALT <\/strong>key.<\/li><li>Click on the markup you want to change the properties for. Its grippys will turn purple.<\/li><li>Any changes made in the properties will only affect the markup with the purple grippys.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>You can even delete individual markups:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Select the group.<\/li><li>Hold the <strong>ALT<\/strong> key.<\/li><li>Select the markup you wish to delete.<\/li><li><em>Release the <strong>ALT<\/strong> key.<\/em><\/li><li><strong>Right-click <\/strong>on the markup you want deleted\u2192<strong> Delete ___ From Group<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>What the GIF below for clarification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"868\" height=\"564\" src=\"https:\/\/lizlarsen.me\/bluebeamblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/22_group_alt_edit.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-531\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"group-aspect-ratio\">Changing the Aspect Ratio of a Group<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When you try to resize a group, you\u2019ll notice the group wants to maintain its original aspect ratio. Sometimes this behavior isn\u2019t what you want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To independently change the length and width of a group, simply hold the <strong>ALT<\/strong> key then grab the corner grippys to resize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"868\" height=\"564\" src=\"https:\/\/lizlarsen.me\/bluebeamblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/22_group_aspect_ratio.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-532\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"group-order\">Grouping Order Matters (Kind Of)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For the most part, the order you select the markups to be grouped does not matter. However, if there is text that you\u2019d like to appear in the Comments column in the markups list, selection order and grouping method will affect this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If using the <strong>keyboard shortcut<\/strong> to group, select the <strong>text<\/strong> <strong>first<\/strong>.<\/li><li>If using the <strong>right-click menu<\/strong> to group, select the <strong>text<\/strong> <strong>last<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This may or may not be important to you, but I wanted to throw it out there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"587\" height=\"681\" src=\"https:\/\/lizlarsen.me\/bluebeamblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/22_group_order.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-535\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>That was a lot more information than my typical Tuesday Tidbits.
